• On the inside of the belt, if you find the words “Italy” or “Paris” etched in the leather, beware! Do not make the purchase if you want an original Dolce & Gabbana product.  The original should have “Made in Italy” or one of the D&G logos or some form of writing in Italian.

• Another thing I noticed on my own, if I want a size 36, I would have to look for a larger number, like 80 or something.  The European measuring system is not the same as the U.S.

• If you have already made your purchase, and are still debating if you have received a knockoff, you can visit a website www.madeinitaly.com and enter the barcode from your purchase.  You will have to take if from there.

I will not tell you that you cannot find a special price on a Dolce & Gabbana product.  Quality merchandise does not always come with a price tag, and sometimes, too good to be true is just that.  If your budget does not allow for high scale, merchandise and you find a knockoff that you are willing to purchase, that is okay too. The problem is, the overhead of these large fashion houses is so enormous; they had to find a group to cater to, who wouldn’t blink at, let us say, a $500, half-ounce bottle of perfume.  If they were to distribute the fragrance into a million bottles for $50, they would be able to gross a lot more.  Do you think that will happen?  Not a chance.  The egos of the fashion industry are almost god-like.  They strut around like peacocks, controlling the way we see ourselves, and force us to define ourselves by their standards.  That does not sound like something a well-grounded individual would accept.  Until they arrive at a Macy’s or Bloomingdales, (Is that still around?).  All good sense goes out the window when faced with a counter person who questions your buying power.  What do we do then?  Buy whatever they recommend.

If you find a fake Channel product, it would not hurt you to take advantage of it; perhaps the buying power of the consumer will force these large conglomerates to remember what it was like to start out.  There were no Rolls-Royces in the beginning were there?

I have seen some beautiful clothing in my life, but what I have not seen is the quality and allure of a fake Chanel vest, opposed to the original.  Who decides what passes for good quality with these replicas?  I wonder if the designers have some kind of espionage going on or if they wait for the fashions to be introduced to the public first.

I guess the question then becomes, will I allow up to five hundred bucks to leave my hand for a vest.  It doesn’t even have sleeves, so what am I really paying for?

However, I digress.  We are talking about fashion here.  Therefore, here is the skinny.  With those fabulous clothes Chanel makes, finding something exactly like them is almost impossible.  The fabric Chanel uses is of better quality than the fake Chanel is.  Those fake Chanel vest are not as forthcoming as the originals.  Why?  Because there is not a seamstress in the world who can afford to purchase, create and ship those articles and make up for the loss of cash involved to make them.  Consider that for a moment.  If, the prices are that outrageous, there must be a reason.  It would make sense that they are so pricey because of the fabric quality.  Where would you have to go to pick up that fine fabric?  Paris, London, Milan?  Alternatively, perhaps the designers go to the far ends of the earth to find it.

Either way, I say ‘hats off’ to Chanel for making products of such high quality, that cannot be duplicated.  I would rather just spend the five hundred dollars for an original Chanel vest, than to look everywhere for material at $300 a yard, to make my own fake Chanel vest.  What say you?
